10 Best Comedies on Netflix Right Now

Nothing helps you forget your problems like a good comedy flick – though it is still weird to see people walking around without masks on, even on the small screen.

We’ve got lists of fantastic comedies to watch if you are a Hulu or Amazon Prime subscriber, but today we are all about Netflix. Here you will find lots of Netflix Original options, a few comedy classics, and some underrated gems that have slipped under the radar in recent years.

Blockers (2018)

The fact that the talented Leslie Mann leads this ensemble cast should tell you a little bit about this film. She has made a name for herself in irreverent sex comedies, and this movie sticks to the genre.

She is one of a trio of parents determined to prevent their daughters from losing their virginity on prom night. Not wanting to be discovered, they find themselves caught up in all sorts of The Hangover style shenanigans. This movie is a good balance of laugh-out-loud jokes and cringe moments that work.

Get Hard (2015)

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart star in this typical Ferrell comedy in which Ferrell plays yet another version of himself. But if you like Ferrell comedy, this one is among his best.

He plays a wealthy investment bank manager who is framed for a crime that he did not commit. Expecting to go to prison and knowing that he doesn’t have what it takes to survive in the pen, he asks the tough guy who cleans his car (Hart) to help him “get hard” to survive the experience. Enter learning to fight, talk smack, and walk like a brother. There is no way this guy will survive on the inside.

Grown Ups (2010)

This is only the first Adam Sandler flick that has made it onto this list. Netflix seems to have decided that Adam Sandler is their flavor of the month as far as comedy is concerned. And why not.

Also starring Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, they play a group of friends who played basketball together in middle school. They get together three decades later when they learn about the death of their basketball coach. They immediately revert to their middle school selves, much to the horror of their wives (Salma Hakey, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph).

Isn’t It Romantic (2019)

This film starring Rebel Wilson was one of Netflix’s biggest comedy releases in 2019, and shows us what Wilson could do when given the chance to play the leading lady.

Wilson basically plays her obnoxious but loveable character from Pitch Perfect. But an unexpected accident sends Wilson’s character to a world in which everything plays out like it would in a cliche PG-13 romantic comedy. That doesn’t sound so bad, except that she is desperate to get down and dirty with hunky Liam Hemsworth, who shows up as her love interest.

A Million Ways To Die In The West (2014)

This western comedy from Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) didn’t get as much attention as it deserved when it came out, despite all the big-name talent attached such as Charlize Theron and Liam Neeson.

The premise of the film is that MacFarlane is a cowardly frontiersman who must find courage when he falls for a sassy woman and agrees to help her with her outlaw ex. But what the movie is really about is just how hilariously dangerous the old west was, and all the different ways you can die in the space of a day on the frontier.

Murder Mystery (2019)

This is another of Netflix’s big comedy releases from 2019, starring both Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. This is all a recipe for a top-quality if formulaic comedy that is worth a watch.

Sandler and Aniston play a married couple on vacation, who find themselves invited to spend time on the yacht of a billionaire. When someone is killed, they are the prime suspects and begin to wonder if this is why they were invited in the first place. They must play Colombo and Agatha Christie together to solve this locked-room murder mystery.

Someone Great (2019)

While this could definitely be characterized as a chick flick, it has more edge and wit to it than most, which is why it should be on your comedy watch list.

Gina Rodriguez stars as a music journalist who decides to let her hair down and do all the things that she was too afraid to do. This is her moment of liberty as she has just been dumped by her boyfriend, and she is about to leave town for her dream job. She is joined on the journey by her two best friends, played by Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise.

True Memories of an International Assassin (2016)

Kevin James stars in one of his typical comedies where he plays an everyday joe thrown in at the deep end. But we love them because he does it so well.

In this film, he is a writer who has written a fictional spy novel.  But his publisher changes the novel, adding real-world events, and now some of the people involved in the story think that he is revealing their secrets. He must try and inhabit the character that he has created in order to survive their vengeance.

Vacation (2015)

The fifth installment in the modern take on the National Lampoons tradition, Ed Helms and Christina Applegate star as the parents overseeing this series of holiday mishaps.

This time they are on the road to the theme park Walley World, on a trip that the father hopes will let him bond with his kids and rekindle the spark in his marriage. Really, from the outset, this was never going to work out well. There is lots of nostalgia and lots of unbelievable situations, though sometimes the characters are just unbelievably stupid.

Walk of Shame (2014)

Elizabeth Banks stars in this film that tries to turn misogyny on its head for comedy purposes. It provides laughs, but is also a reminder of what women actually have to deal with on a day-to-day basis.

She is a reporter who dreams of being a news anchor, but worries that she has blown her shot when she finds herself stranded in downtown LA after a one-night stand. She has no phone, car, money, or ID, and needs to make it home without being recognized. And she needs to do it all before missing the most important job interview of her life.
