A Friends Reunion is Coming to HBO Max in 2021

Friends fans rejoice, it has finally been confirmed that Friends is coming back for one last time to HBO Max. It has been rumored for a while that this was in the works, but for a long time, fans didn’t know what to believe since the cast was keeping hush on all the details.

The entire cast will meet to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary for an unscripted special on HBO Max. Some production is currently halted due to the coronavirus, but there are a few things we already know about the special.

Air Date

It is rumored that the special will premiere in March 2021. Matthew Perry, who plays Chandler, tweeted that since the reunion had to be rescheduled, it looks like the air date will be pushed back until March. Some of the cast was disappointed in this, since they were hoping for a special in 2020.

It’s not a new episode.

Fans might be sad to know that this isn’t an actual episode of Friends. Instead, the cast will get together to revisit the old st, share behind-the-scenes footage, and have some hidden surprises. They will not be reprising their original roles, though.

HBO Max came out with a statement that said:

“Lastly, to avoid any misunderstandings about what this special is, we want to make it very clear that this is not a new, original episode of the series. The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters.”

The Whole Gang is Back

While we won’t see the character back in action, we will see the cast back. Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer will all reunite on Stage 24 at Warners Bros. Studios to film the special.

There’s Already Been a Mini-Reunion

During the 2020 Emmy’s, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow all appeared together on-screen. Aniston was talking about her “roommates” when viewers were surprised by Cox and Kudrow. Fans were delighted even though it was only the women of Friends appearing on the award show.

You Can Watch The Filming

The cast is offering tickets for the show’s filming, although we don’t know when that will be now. The tickets are being auctioned off for the All-In Challenge, which raises funds for organizations like America’s Food Fund.

Although we don’t know when the show will film, the cast keeps their social media updated so fans will be the first to know when all of the Friends are back on stage. While you wait for the new special to drop on HBO Max, you can watch the entire series on the platform right now.
