Amazon Prime Video is starting to increase its international originals offer. Today was France’s turn. The streaming service announced four new original shows: its ‘Love Island‘ version, another unscripted show called ‘The Missing One‘, and two drama shows, called ‘Operations Totems‘ and ‘Voltaire, Mixte.‘
‘Love Island’ has been a total hit in the UK, which led to a quick selling of international remake rights, and the French ones were bought by Amazon. The other reality show, ‘The Missing One,’ will follow four teams, each led by a French Celebrity, racing all around Australia searching for a missing crew member. The show was co-created by Borderline Media and WeMake, which will also produce the show.
Gaumont, the producer of ‘Narcos’ will make ‘Operations Totems,’ set in 1964 during the Cold War, and follows the tale of forbidden love between two people that don’t know what to do between their mission and what they feel. Olivier Dujols is the showrunner. ‘Voltaire, Mixte’ is an ensemble drama set in the ’60s (which, if you know a bit of history, you’ll know they were quite fundamental to forge modern-day France) in an all-male high school that starts receiving female students. Mari Roussin serves as the showrunner. The show’s first season will have eight episodes.
“We know that viewers in France want to see unique, authentic and entertaining stories that they truly connect with, and we’re committed to producing the widest variety of quality French programming exclusively for Prime members that delivers against that,” said Georgia Brown, head of European Amazon Original series.
“We’re incredibly focused on investing a resource of time, passion and budget to achieve the highest-quality shows for our audiences in France, because we believe that putting the spotlight on the very best local stories will not only delight our French viewers but our Prime members around the world.”
Here’s hoping we know more soon of this slate of French originals from Amazon Prime Video.
