Amazon Prime Video picks up D&D animated show, ‘Vox Machina’

The fan-supported Critical Role will launch on Amazon Prime Video big-time. The streamer took its animated show ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ for two 12-episode seasons.

Critical Role is a show where voice actors play different adventures of Dungeons & Dragons. The show aired earlier this season with one 22-minute episode that gave way to a Kickstarter campaign with a $750,000 goal, which was passed in a mere 40 minutes. After that, 10 of the episodes were funded with the Kickstarter that ended up raising more than $11 million.

The new show will tell the adventures of a bunch of drunks that go on a journey to save the earth from the evils of the realm that includes disturbing monsters and mystic characters.

“We were absolutely floored by the level of enthusiasm we received on the Kickstarter campaign, and now we can deliver exactly what the fans wanted, and more,” said Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham, voice actors and executive producers of the series. “Teaming with Prime Video to deliver the series to fans across the globe is exciting and surreal–and we’re psyched to be able to tell even more stories with not just one, but two 12-episode seasons!”

Critical Role also signed an exclusivity deal with Amazon Prime Video to produce additional exclusive content for the streamer.

The upcoming show didn’t receive a release date, but ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ will have a familiar cast for those who follow ‘Critical Role:’ Riegel, Willingham, Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, and Marisha Ray.
