El Presidente is one of the latest projects filmed in Spanish by Amazon Studios. The show takes place in the middle of the history of the scandal that came to light in 2015 and that today we know as the “FIFAgate”. The series will be released to over 200 countries on 5 June this year.
‘El Presidente’ will show us a portrait of the rise and fall of Sergio Jadue, the president of a small Chilean football team that emerged from the bottom up to become one of the leading players in a corruption network valued at $150 million.
Sergio Jadue became president of the Chilean Football Association in 2011. Four years later, the Chilean national soccer team won the Copa America under Jorge Sampaoli. But by November 2015, Sergio resigned as president after a corruption scandal within FIFA became public. The world of soccer was turned upside down.
In this eight-episode series, Sergio Jadue will be played by Colombian actor Andres Parra (who we know from his role as Pablo Escobar in The Patron of Evil). In the show, we will also have Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder). But perhaps the most exciting part of El Presidente is that we will have Academy Award-winning Armando Bo (Birdman) directing and writing the series.
