Best Animated Movies on Netflix You Need to Add to Your Watchlist



It doesn’t matter what age you are; a good animated flick can bring out everyone’s inner child. Yes, when we think about an animated film, you automatically think of Disney. Still, there is a whole world of incredible animated movies that are waiting to be added to your watchlist. 

The broad range could be a little daunting too, and you may need help figuring out which animated movies are the best and worth your time watching. We made a list of some of the best-animated movies you need to add to your watchlist on Netflix right now. Here are our favorites. 

The Croods

Cast: Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, and Catherine Keener 

The Croods is a great family animated movie. The story follows a family that is trying to live in a world before technology and people who make their food. It has an excellent lesson about taking chances and supporting your family. There are a lot of cute moments throughout the movie, and it is funny, but the storytelling is also fantastic. 

Ralph Breaks The Internet 

Cast: John C. Reily, Sarah Silverman, and Gal Gadot 


The sequel to Wreck-it Ralph is just as good as the original. You follow Vanellope as she begins to blossom from her old arcade again into something else. Ralph starts to have issues losing his friend and giving up the past, but the movie has a lot of valuable lessons about change for children and is excellent for the entire family. The movie has a lot of laughable moments, and there is even a scene where Vanellope visits the original Disney Princess cast. 

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 

Cast: Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, and Mahershala Ali

This animated movie shocked everyone and won Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. The storytelling and visuals are incredible, and it goes beyond the original Spider-Man film that we know. Instead of following one Spider-Man, you follow multiple as they work together to save the universe. It’s a great movie for children and adults. 

Mary and The Witch’s Flower 

Cast: Hana Sugisaki, Ryunosuke Kamiki, and Yuki Amami 

Adapted from the novel “The Little Broomstick” by Mary Stewart, the story follows a bunch of magical elements, and you follow a girl on an adventure of self-discovery. The show is anime style and belongs with other Studio Ghibli’s style anime shows. 

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 

Cast: Anna Faris, Bill Hadar, and Bruce Campbell 

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is an adorable movie to sit down and enjoy. The story follows, and family that loves food and inventions, but their inventions start to go horribly wrong. Besides a great family arch, it also has a nice love story, and a bunch of cute moments kids will enjoy. 

Monster House 

Cast: Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner, and Spencer Locke 

You see an older man that cares for an old, creepy house. When the caretaker is taken from the house, it starts to wreak havoc on the neighborhood. To help a set of kids explore the abandoned home and see what secret lies within it. The movie has plenty of fantastic ghost stories to give you the right amount of scary, but it is also filled with comedy, so it isn’t too frightening for the kids. 

The Lorax 

Cast: Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, and Danny DeVito 

Following Dr. Seuss’ book, you see 12-year-old Ted that lives in a place with no flowers or trees. To win the apple of his love’s life, he has to find a Truffula tree, and he uses the help of the Lorax to get there. 

Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa 

Cast: Ben Stiller, Chris Rock,Jada Pinkett Smith, and David Schwimmer 


With the help of the penguins, the zoo animals are able to escape from Madagascar and make it to Africa. There they meet members of their species for the first time and learn that Africa can be a wild place. The group now faces a dilemma about staying in Africa or heading back home to New York. Madagascar 2 is hilarious and just as good as the original. 

The Princess and The Frog 

Cast: Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Bruno Campos, and Jennifer Lewis 

Tiana is hardworking and hopes to open her own restaurant one day in New Orleans. One day she meets Prince Naveen, who has turned into a forge and promises to help her fulfil her dream for one kiss to turn him back human. Unfortunately, that plan backfires, and now the two need to figure out how to work together to turn human and defeat Dr. Facilier. This movie is great for the entire family, has a great lesson about following your dreams, and the music is incredible. 

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling 

Cast: Joe Murray, Carlos Alazraqui. Tom Kenny and Mr. Lawrence 

If you were a fan of Rocko’s Modern Life, you need to jump on this movie. You follow Rocko and the gang as they are suddenly thrust into the modern world and all of its technologies. From there, they try to help the bigheads with their son and the new changes that are coming their way. The movie is amazing and just like the television show, but if the younger views watch it, a parent should be around. 


Netflix is filled with fantastic animated movies that the entire family can enjoy. These movies are more than just the Disney movies we are used to, and some can bring a valuable lesson to the whole family. You also don’t need to be a kid to sit down and enjoy these movies.
