Dramas are great to watch, and they really immerse you in their storyline, can make you get hooked on characters and their plots and just make you feel the emotions you want to feel. Netflix delivers when it comes to excellent and spicy dramas, and some of the best might be hiding right in front of you.

Ozark has been the talk of the town, and it is a Netflix original series. You see Jason Bateman’s character’s life fall apart around him, and his family is forced to move from Chicago to the Ozarks. There they begin a money laundering business after he finds out his business partner has been working with the Mexican drug cartels. The show is thrilling and offers a lot of unexpected twists and turns. The drama was one of the most popular shows streamed on Netflix in 2020 as well. 

The Queen’s Gambit 

Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Marielle Heller, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Harry Melling

The Queen's Gambit

The Queen’s Gambit is a limited series of Netflix that has seven episodes. The show follows a young orphan who is working through trauma and shows the small joys she finds along her journey and the people she meets. You see Beth, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, as a young chess prodigy but the show is so much more than chess. Viewers will instantly be drawn to Beth and her story and don’t worry, the story starts on episode one and ends on episode seven, so you will get all your answers by the end. 


Cast: Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Justin Theroux, and Sally Field 

This ten episode limited series takes place in a more advanced version of Earth where you see two individuals that are depressed and sad. The pair takes part in a pharmaceutical trial that is meant to cure them of all their illness, but it has them live out a variety of different fantasies and scenarios in their mind. If you like a good sci-fi drama, this is a great show to watch, and Emma Stone and Jonah Hill are spectacular in it. 

The Crown 

Cast: Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and John Lithgow 

In The Crown, you see a young Queen Elizabeth II as she begins her reign in England. Her grandmother cautions the Queen about the odds she will be at with her family and herself, and you see the struggle the new queen faces against herself. The story is fantastic, and it is a popular series on Netflix right now, it is even Netflix’s more expensive series to create. The current season features the beginning of Dianna and fans are loving it.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story 

Cast: Darren Criss, Cody Fern, Ricky Martin, and Penelope Cruz 

Ryan Murphy is the genius behind this limited series that shows the glitz, glamour, and game behind Versace and his ultimate death. The story goes backwards in time and tracks the murderer, Andrew Cunanan, to murders he died prior to killing Versace. You see his personal life and the reasons for why he may have become a violent killer. The show is fascinating and memorable, and you will quickly see why it swept award shows this year. 


Cast: Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes 

Bodyguard is a drama but can also be classified as a thriller that could easily trigger your anxiety and cause you to pause the show for a small mental break. The show has six episodes that follow a police officer that was a war veteran that helps use his skills to stop a terrorist attack. He is later tasked with becoming the bodyguard for a Conservative Home Secretary which turns this show into a real ride and has you sitting on the edge of your seat. 

The Haunting of Hill House

Cast: Carla Gugino, Michael Huisman, Kate Siegel, and Mckenna Grace


The Haunting of Hill House is a Netflix series that took inspiration from Shirley Jackson’s ghost stories and turned them into a show that focuses on the haunted lives of the Crain family. You see the family dealing with the aftermath and trauma from spending time at a haunted mansion, and how that has shaped them into the people, they are today. The show is a fantastic drama, but if you also love a good horror movie, this has plenty of those aspects as well. 


Cast: Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, and Caroline Dhavernas 

You might think you know what Hannibal is about, but you will still be shocked when you watch this drama. The show is based on the novel by Thomas Harris, where you see a forensic psychiatrist who is called by a criminal profiler to help track down a serial killer. The two sprout an intense relationship and matters get worse when all eyes are on Hannibal as the suspected serial killer. The show is a fantastic drama that is wrapped into a thriller with crime and horror mixed into it as well. 


Netflix easily has you covered when it comes to quenching your drama needs. All of these shows are great to watch and will get you invested in the lives of these characters, and you honestly may binge a season or two.
