Beating her album Lemonade with 2 nominations in 2016, Beyoncé was always set to beat her number of Emmy nominations with 6 for her Netflix treat: Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.
The 2019 Emmy nominations were announced the morning of July 16, Tuesday. Included in the list of those nominated was Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.
Netflix launched the film on the 17th of April, collecting a massive amount of very strong reviews to support it. It featured the preparations before the event, behind-the-scenes media including photos of Beyoncé’s family, and of course, the narration from the singer-director-writer herself. It exhibited the singer’s historic performance for 2018’s Coachella festival as she was the very first black woman to ever grace the headline of the event. What a boss. Might I also add that it was starred, written, and directed by the Queen B herself?
Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé is nominated for each of the following categories:
- Outstanding variety special (pre-recorded)
- Outstanding writing for a variety special
- Outstanding production design for a variety special
- Outstanding costumes for a variety (non-fiction or reality programming)
- Outstanding directing for a variety special
- Outstanding music direction
Lemonade was not the only Emmy nomination Beyoncé has ever received; other notable mentions include the special class program for her and her husband, Jay-Z’s On the Run Tour and for her 2013 Super Bowl Halftime Show!
Quite a few things are in line and scheduled for the Queen herself. She will appear in The Lion King as Nala and has recently just released the “Spirit” video from Disney’s movie which you can watch right here:
Along with that, she also co-produced the album The Lion King: The Gift. Found in the movie-inspired album are her songs and artists like Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and husban Jay-Z can also be found!
We might see a lot of Beyoncé this year and the six Emmy nominations she received might just be the start of a yet another Queen year for her!
