Hulu to make a movie adaptation of Clive Barker’s ‘Books of Blood’

Hulu is starting to bet hard in its original movies. Its latest move has been striking a deal for the rights of a movie based on Clive Barker’s Books of Blood.

The movie will follow three stories of Barker’s multi-volume series of horror short tales. Brannon Braga will make its feature film directorial debut with the movie and is the co-writer with Adam Simon, with whom he co-created ‘Salem,’ for WGN America.

The main cast is comprised of Anna Friel, Britt Robertson, Rafi Gavron, and Yul Vazquez.

This project is part of a somewhat new area for Hulu. The streamer hasn’t aired any original films, but now, aside from Books of Blood’s adaptation is also working on ‘The Binge,’ a Vince Vaughn-led movie.

Braga, Simon, and Barker are executive producers of the show with Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Brian Witten, Jeff Kwatinetz, Josh Barry and Mark Miller. Joe Micucci, Jason Clark, and Michael Mahoney are producers. The film is produced by Fox 21 and Fuzzy Door, headed by MacFarlane and Huggins.

Friel (Pushing Daisies) and Gavron (Catch-22) will feature one story, where Friel plays a psychologist, called Mary, who has obtained recognition for debunking unscientific theories but her own beliefs are shaken when she meets Simon (played by Gavron), a man who says he speaks with his 7-year-old son who died of leukemia.

In another story, Robertson will portray Jenna, a girl who suffers from misphonia, which means she loathes sound that learns her mother will send her back to a place called ‘The Farm,’ so she escapes to LA.

Last but not least, Vazquez will play Bennet, a hitman whose latest contract leads him to get a priceless book that may allow him to retire with his wife, but finds supernatural horror in the way.
