De-stress with Netflix’s ‘Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show’

We’re all busy nowadays, am I right? With the outburst of social and environmental issues, we’re all in for a break. While this may sound like a company pitch, I assure you––it kind of is. I present to you Netflix’s Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show. It’s an outrageously funny six-episode series that could possibly help you ease the stress on your good ol’ joints.

I haven’t seen much Astronomy Club praises in the past few weeks, including when they premiered in early December. All I can say is that it deserves more. Concluding the decade hasn’t given enough credit to shows that came later in that time span––focusing on bigger, brighter series I’m sure all of us have watched like Stranger Things and The Witcher.

The show stars the first all-black group raised by the Upright Citizen Brigade Theatre. Five men and three women compose this bunch, and they’ve been hilarious enough to stir a steadily growing group of following since 2014. If you didn’t remember or experience, Comedy Central actually gave the group a chance to host their own digital series in 2018 which was sort of short-lived for the most part.

In their own Netflix show, the group offers a bunch of comedic strips and sketches that they’ve all written by hand. I mean, there are only a few people in this world that can deliver such comedies without ridiculing and being insensitive.

The Astronomy Club is made up of eight members––Shawtane Bowen, Jonathan Braylock, Ray Cordova, James III, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses, and Zollar. “Why the name Astronomy Club? We’re black and we’re all stars,” troupe member Keisha Zollar said in the first episode. “And like most stars, nobody knows our names.” We do now. 😉

The show gives off a vibe wherein if Big Brother and SNL had a child, this would be it.

With all these things happening in the world, it doesn’t hurt to take a break. This is your chance––this is your show. Enjoy!
