It’s been a rare sight for Netflix to actually renew a series and when they did, they just really had to announce that fan-favorite Netflix Original Dead to Me is going for its third and, unfortunately, final season.
Coming straight from the platform’s official Twitter account, the renewal (and cancellation) of the series was posted alongside the stars of the show in Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate. As sad as it sounds, the end is nearing for the beloved series––to which Netflix wrote:
“The Brilliant Dead to Me has been renewed for a third (and final) season!”

2019 was a big year for the series and creator Liz Feldman as Dead to Me premiered on the streaming giant. Alongside Applegate and Cardellini are top talents in the business as well with the likes of Edward Asner, James Marsden, Max Jenkins, Sam McCarthy, and Luke Roessler. Behind the camera, Feldman, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Jessica Elbaum produce the comedy.
Because of the series, Applegate earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series––and a well-deserved one at that.
If you aren’t familiar with the series yet, here’s the Netflix synopsis:
A hotheaded widow searching for the hit-and-run driver who mowed down her husband befriends an eccentric optimist who isn’t quite what she seems.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much news circulating when the third and final season of the series will be premiering on the platform. However, we’re sensing a little bit of a pattern here. The first season came out in May 2019 while the second season came out in May 2020. So, does that mean we’ll be seeing the next season of the comedy around that month next year as well? Well, given that Netflix halted certain series’ production, we’re just happy to know that the series was already renewed.
