‘Diary of a Future President’ will premiere on January 2020 on Disney+

Disney+ continues bolstering its original content offer. After an excellent first launching month for the streamer, even as it didn’t have much new content, they are offering new content little by little.

One of the next in line is ‘Diary of a Future President’ and it just got its release date. The 10-episode show will stream on Disney+ from January 17. Gina Rodriguez, Emily Gipson, and Ilana Peña will be the executive producers. The show will be based on Peña’s childhood. Robin Shorr and Brad Silberling serve as showrunners.

Rodriguez has previously worked with Gipson on ‘Someone Great’ and with Silberling in the show that rose her to stardom, ‘Jane the Virgin.’

The show follows Elena, a 12-year-old Cuban-America as “she experiences the ups and downs of middle school and starts her journey toward becoming the future president of the United States.” The whole story will be told from the narration of her personal diary.

The show was initially called ‘Diary of a Female President.’ The series will star Tess Romero as Elena, newcomer Charlie Bushnell as Bobby, Elena’s older brother. Selenis Leyva, who you may remember from ‘Orange Is the New Black’ will play Gabi, Elena and Bobby’s mother. Michael Weaver plays Sam, a lawyer at Gabi’s firm who is starting to date her. Gina Rodriguez will guest-star as adult Elena, who becomes the president of the United States.
