Disney+ is currently working on a series adaptation of Percy Jackson. The author of the original books, Rick Riordan, made the announcement on his Twitter profile. The announcement comes after months and months of speculation and rumors about the possibility of enjoying one of Disney’s most successful mythological adventures after a shaky film adaption.
Rick Riordan used the hashtag #DisneyAdaptPercyJackson in December of last year, but it quickly became shrouded in mystery. That’s when rumors started to spread, and fans were left waiting. But now we have official confirmation that the project is underway.
Rick said he is very excited about the idea of a live-action series with the quality that Disney+ can deliver. He also let it be known that the plot will follow the original story of the 5 books, starting with The Lightning Thief in the first season.
At the moment, there are no more details about the series. We don’t know anything about who is going to direct or act, so it is certain that the project is still at a very early stage. Some rumors suggest that the show would be produced with the help of Fox 21 TV Studios, but there is nothing concrete.
Riordan’s book saga tells the story of a teenager named Percy Jackson, who discovers that he is one of the sons of Poseidon, one of the gods of Greek mythology. From then on, the plot is full of fantasy elements and adventures that can well use the series format to expand a little more on elements that we could not see in the film adaptation.
