The singer has directed, written, and produced this project, based on the album The Lion King: The Gift, which she made for the 2019 film.
The project will debut on the Disney+ streaming platform on July 31st, but we have already enjoyed its first preview:
“You, who were formed by the heart of the galaxy. What a thing to be, both unique and familiar, to be one and the same”, are the words with which Beyoncé begins narrating the Black is King trailer, a project with which she seeks to reimagine the lessons of the 1994 classic applied to current times: “For the young kings and queens of today who seek their own crowns.” The artist herself is in charge of starring in the visual album, along with Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, and Alfre Woodard.
Veteran Lion King fans will be able to recognize some of the most mythical lines of dialogue in the film throughout the trailer, serving as a kind of modern, updated story of Simba’s adventures in becoming the Lion King. On this occasion, we will follow in the footsteps of a boy who will become a man as he travels far from his birthplace into the unknown world.
Black is King’s trailer also features some of the most famous faces in the cast: Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z, his mother Tina Knowles-Lawson, as well as Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Campbell and Kelly Rowland. In addition to its Disney+ debut, Black Is King will also be available throughout the African continent: South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Namibia, Cameroon, Liberia, Burundi, Senegal, Togo, Somalia, Benin, Congo, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Gabon, Cape Verde, and other countries will be able to enjoy the visual album through MultiChoice Group’s M-Net and Canal+ Afrique.
We remind you that Black is King will debut at Disney+ next July 31st.
