Howard Ashman will be honored by Disney+ with a new documentary to be directed by Don Hahn. The production, titled ‘Howard,’ will take us into the world of work of the Oscar-winning lyricist and screenwriter, who was also the mastermind behind the music of films that marked an entire generation such as ‘The Little Mermaid,’ ‘Aladin,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and many others.
The documentary will hit the screens of Disney’s streaming platform subscribers on August 7, so we won’t have to wait long to see behind the scenes of Ashman’s work on the Disney classics. The documentary will show us Ashman’s life from his childhood growing up in Baltimore to his tragic and sudden death from AIDS at age 40.
In ‘Howard’ we will also see never-before-seen footage of interviews with other mythological figures at Disney, such as Alan Menken, Paige O’Hara, and Jodi Benson; plus testimonials from Ashman’s family directly.
In the trailer of the documentary that Disney+ published in its social media, we can see some recordings of how the songs of ‘The Little Mermaid’ came to life thanks to Howard’s genius.
After the exorbitant success of ‘Hamilton,’ Disney+ is looking to hit the ground running with another documentary that will grab people’s attention this summer. And from the way the wind is blowing, it seems that ‘Howard’ will also become a must-see in the coming months.
In about three weeks, we will be able to watch this documentary that promises to fill us with nostalgia, until then, you can watch the trailer here:
