Universal and DreamWorks Animation have teamed up to produce an animated show based on the astonishingly successful saga, ‘Fast & Furious’ to offer a more family-friendly option.
The show features high-octane ventures, with new, young characters, and a different premise based on international espionage.
The trailer shows a teenager called Tony Toretto who wants to follow the steps (or may we say the tires) of his cousin, Dom Toretto when he and his team are recruited by the government to infiltrate an elite racing league that serves as a cover to a global criminal plot.
Tim Hendrick (Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) are the showrunners and they executive produce alongside three of the original franchise producers: Vin Diesel, who plays Dom Toretto in the original saga, Neal H. Moritz, and Chris Morgan.
The Fast & Furious franchise has given us eight main films and one spinoff film (this year’s Hobbs and Shaw) from 2001 with constant reinvention, incredible locations, and tons of action. This new venture means the saga is pointing up to a new generation of fans and expanding its market. For example, the show may lead to sales in toys and action figures which may be a similar source of income to the box office.
The voice case includes Tyler Posey as Tony Toretto; Camille Ramsey as Layla Gray, an underground racer: Luke Youngblood as Frostee Benson, a 13-year old IT genius; Charlet Chung as Echo, a martial artist; Jorge Díaz as Cisco Renaldo; Renée Goldsberry as Ms. Nowhere; Similce Diesel as Sissy, and Manish Dayal as Shashi Dhar.
The show premieres on Netflix on December 26. Enjoy the trailer below:
