After announcing a rebirth of ‘Adventure Time’ with four special episodes, HBO Max continues to fortify its animated offer.
‘gen:LOCK’ Season 1 launched on Rooster Teeth around 6 months ago, and a month later, Rooster Teeth’s parent company, Otter Media, was acquired by WarnerMedia, which also owns HBO Max. Season one already had a second go of edited-down episodes on Adult Swim, also owned by WarnerMedia, and ranked among its more popular shows.
Now, Season 2 will move to HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s streaming service, to launch in Spring 2020. The show’s synopsis says the show is set “Fifty years in the future, gen:LOCK tells the story of an oppressive authoritarian force that threatens to conquer the world. A daring team is recruited to pilot a new form of devastating mecha, but they must be willing to sacrifice everything to save the world.”

Season 1 had eight half-hour episodes. There’s no word on how long will Season 2 be, nor when will it launch. All that we know is that the new season will also premiere on Rooster Teeth for its FIRST members 90 days after it’s launched on HBO Max. The show’s all-star voice cast is led by Michael B. Jordan, Dakota Fanning, Maisie Williams, and David Tennant.
“We’re beyond excited to be producing a second season of gen:LOCK for HBO Max,” said Matt Hullum, co-founder of Rooster Teeth. “[HBO Max senior VP of animation] Billy Wee and the team at HBO Max have been incredibly supportive in the development process, and we’re thrilled to be working closely with them on this project. We were blown away by the response to the first season of this show, both by the Rooster Teeth community and the Adult Swim audience, and cannot wait to bring it to more fans of action, sci-fi and mecha animation.”
