Welcome to Netflix, George Clooney and “The Midnight Sky”! We’ll see you real soon

Everyone’s coming to Netflix and by everyone, I mean George Clooney. Clooney’s film, The Midnight Sky, is coming soon to the streaming platform this year. Yup, just like every other film. The film from Clooney is an adaptation of the book by Lily Brooks-Dalton about a scientist trying to stop a group of astronauts from getting back home to Mother Earth. Alongside Clooney in starring are Felicity Jones and Kyle Chandler!

“That’s a wrap! THE MIDNIGHT SKY, from director and star George Clooney, is coming later this year,” the streaming platform tweeted as the world screamed.

Netflix, in the past couple of years, has had a rollercoaster ride when it came to their original movies––different reactions from different critics and audiences. Added to that list will be this film scripted by Mark L. Smith. As I’ve said, the film will be an adaptation of Brooks-Dalton’s book and more specifically, Good Morning, Midnight. Here’s the synopsis, if you’re curious!

“Augustine, a brilliant, aging astronomer, is consumed by the stars. For years he has lived in remote outposts, studying the sky for evidence of how the universe began. At his latest posting, in a research center in the Arctic, news of a catastrophic event arrives. The scientists are forced to evacuate, but Augustine stubbornly refuses to abandon his work. Shortly after the others have gone, Augustine discovers a mysterious child, Iris, and realizes that the airwaves have gone silent. They are alone. At the same time, Mission Specialist Sullivan is aboard the Aether on its return flight from Jupiter. The astronauts are the first human beings to delve this deep into space, and Sully has made peace with the sacrifices required of her: a daughter left behind, a marriage ended. So far the journey has been a success. But when Mission Control falls inexplicably silent, Sully and her crewmates are forced to wonder if they will ever get home.”

Clooney, you know you’ve had your fair share of criticisms from your past few directed films. Let this be your bounce-back. Netflix trusts you, and we do also.
