‘The Boys’ was one of the most pleasant surprises of Amazon Prime Video. Not so long ago, the company greenlighted a Season 2, and now we know a bit more. Goran Visnjic (who your mom may remember from ER, but you probably do from ‘Timeless’) and Claudia Doumit (also from ‘Timeless) have struck a deal to appear in Season 2 in recurring roles.
Visnjic will portray Alistair Adana, a new character that doesn’t appear in the comics, who is “the charismatic and shadowy leader of a mysterious church,” Doumit will play Victoria Neuman, described as “a young wunderkind congresswoman,” who is also a new character but one that may be loosely based on the comic’s constant political comments and satire.
‘The Boys’ is a satirical take on what happens when people with superpowers get political powers and are revered by the public as gods, which leads them to abuse their capabilities. The group known as The Boys go on a quest to expose the truth behind such subjects. The show retains most of the comic’s black humour and gratuitous violence while exploring the dark side of superheroes.
The series’ cast is led by Karl Urban (Judge Dredd) playing Billy Butcher, the leader of the group of vigilantes that try to expose the truth about ‘superheroes’. He’s joined by Jack Quaid as Hughie, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Jennifer Esposito as Agent Susan Rayner, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk and Karen Fukuhara as the Female. Also in the show are Elisabeth Shue, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Antony Starr, Nathan Mitchell, and Chace Crawford, who now will be joined by Doumit and Visnjic.
The show was created by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen who have experience on comic-book-inspired shows with AMC’s ‘Preacher,’ and ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Timeless’ showrunner Eric Kripke.
