‘Hala’: Apple TV+ shares the first trailer of its coming-of-age movie

Hala is a Pakistani-American teen that loves skateboarding which usually leads here to continuously struggle with her parents’ harsh cultural and religious instruction.

Her story is shown in the first official trailer of ‘Hala,’ which premiered at Sundance and played in the Toronto International Film Festival and received widespread acclaim, leading Apple to acquire its rights for its newly-released streamer, Apple TV+.

The film will air on December 6. Minhal Baig wrote and directed the film. Geraldine Viswanathan stars as Hala, a 17-year-old teenager that grapples to balance her personal desires with her family, cultural, and religious upbringing and responsibilities. As she tries to make her own mind, she struggles with a secret that may break the family up.

“You said that I could tell you if something’s going on,” Hala says in the trailer. “Something’s going on.”

“Hala” stars Viswanathan alongside Jack Kilmer, Gabriel Luna, Anna Chlumsky, Purbi Joshi and Azad Khan. Jada Pinkett-Smith is the exec producer, while Clarence Hammond, Jamal Watson, and Baig are the film’s producers.

‘Hala’ is the third original film of Apple TV+ to receive a trailer and official release date. The first of them was ‘The Elephant Queen,’ that was available when the service premiered on November 1; on Monday, Apple released the trailer of ‘The Banker,’ starring Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie.

As it usually happens with streamers’ films, ‘Hala’ will have a limited theatrical release from November 22 before making its debut on Apple TV+ on December 6.
