HBO Max requested from Lionsgate an adult animated series called “Santa Inc.,” which will feature the voices of Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman.
It will be an eight-episode, half-hour, animated series. Santa Inc. will be written by showrunner Alexandra Rushfield (Shrill) and produced by Point Grey Pictures, Seth Rogen’s production company, as part of a partnership with Lionsgate.
Santa Inc. will tell the story of Candy Smalls (Sarah Silverman), the most prominent female elf in the North Pole. Candy’s life changes when Santa Claus’ successor (Seth Rogen) is suddenly hired by Amazon on Christmas Eve. From that point, Candy starts her wildest dream – to become the first female Santa in Christmas history.
In a statement, Suzanna Makkos, EVP of original comedy and animation from HBO Max said she had long dreamed about adding a feminist touch and some R-rated comedy to the Christmas tradition.
“I read this script from Ali, with Seth and Sarah attached to voice, I knew that it was a perfect fit for us at Max.”
To imagine what an adult version of a Christmas story would look like, you can check out one of Rogen’s latest animation projects, Sausage Party. The film surprised everyone who didn’t have faith in an adult animated film.
Sarah Silverman and Seth Rogen strike me as a perfect duo for this kind of production. I can’t wait to have a binge-watching session with Santa Inc. once it opens. Unfortunately, that’s a long way off. The project is still at an early stage.
