HBO Max to produce ‘The Beach’, a new drama based on NYT bestselling ‘Beach Lane’

HBO Max announced it has started developing ‘The Beach,’ a one-hour drama series based on ‘Beach Lane,’ written by NYT bestselling writer, Melissa de la Cruz.

The showrunners of the series will be Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith, creators of ‘Lie Sentence,’ and their In Good Company producer, Alloy Entertainment, Everheart Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and My So-Called Company.

The book was adapted by Cardillo and Keith. The story follows three local teens who work in The Hamptons’ luxurious estates, beach clubs, and yachts over one summer as their lives become growingly connected with the wealthy families that go into town for the summer.

Cardillo and Keith executive produce for In Good Company, alongside Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo for Alloy, and Jenna Dewan and Jean Song for Everheart Productions. Julie Plec produces for My So-Called Company.

Cardillo and Keith have been collaborating as creative and producing partners since the mid-2000s. They are currently on a roll as they also sold the one-hour drama show ‘Love Me’ to ABC, their first sale after their overall Warner Bros TV deal. ‘The Beach’ is the 6th broadcast project they’ve sold to Warner Bros. TV. Two of them went to series on The CW: Significant Mother and Life Sentence.

HBO Max is set to launch in May 2020. As the show has just been announced, it’s not likely it’ll be available when the streaming service launched but at least a few months later. It depends mostly on when filming stars, but the initial peek has ‘The OC’ or ‘Gossip Girl’ potential.
