Disney+ is set to launch in a week and news about the streamer continues flowing. After announcing a sequel of the Halloween cult film some time ago, there was a ton of expectation surrounding the plot and the cast.
Now, Disney has confirmed that all of the original main cast will return for the sequel. The original movie premiered in 1993 and followed the Sanderson sisters: Winnie (Bette Midler), Mary (Kathy Najimy), and Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker). The movie was directed by Kenny Ortega, the mind behind ‘High School Musical.’ After a teenager unconsciously resurrects the Sanderson witch sisters 300 years after being put to death for witchcraft, they go out to terrorize Salem as a retaliation. They try to drain the life from the children to obtain immortality. For its friendly tone, strange look, and a top-notch cast, the movie has gained cult status.
The original movie finished with the Sanderson sisters turning to dust after Max, his sister Dani, and his crush, Alison frustrated their plans.
Since 2014 there’s been speculation about a sequel, but the project hasn’t taken off. With Disney+ on board, the status has seemed to change. Sarah Jessica Parker said that she would return for the sequel alongside Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy to play the Sanderson Sisters.
Although there’s no official announcement, many of the former child stars of the film have also stated they would love to return for a sequel, and it’s safe to say that Disney also wants as much of the original cast back for the sequel.
Considering the movie is a Halloween stalwart, Disney+ will possibly do anything they can for an October 2020 release.
