‘How to Build a Girl’ skips theaters to premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video

This year has been chaotic for film productions that were hoping to reach the big screen, but among all the cancellations and delays, some films decide to bet on a release on the streaming platforms of the moment. The latest example is ‘How to Build a Girl’ a coming-of-age comedy shot in the UK that will skip the big screen to go straight to Amazon Prime Video’s exclusive catalog.

‘How to Build a Girl’ is an adaptation of Caitlin Moran’s novel. It will star Beanie Feldstein, who will play Johanna Morrigan, a 16-year-old girl who decides to leave her family in Wolverhampton to experience life in London.

The film’s plot shows the protagonist reinventing herself and becoming an eccentric woman (who wears top hats) who is beginning to make a name for herself as a music critic. The film has autobiographical elements based on Moran’s life, who wanted to be a journalist in her teens and who also broke away from her family to find her own way.

Moran worked on the screenplay for this comedy with Scottish writer John Niven. The film is directed by Coky Giedroyc, whom we also know from his work on ‘Women Talking Dirty’ and ‘The Virgin Queen.’

The cast of this film is quite robust. It features Emma Thompson, Alfie Allen, Chris O’Dowd, and Paddy Considine.

From this Friday, July 24th, Amazon Prime Video subscribers will enjoy this film that promises a journey of self-discovery and a lot of humor.
