On May 8th, Hulu premiered ‘Solar Opposites’, the new animated series by Justin Roiland, co-creator of ‘Rick and Morty’. To no one’s surprise, it was a big hit that brought out the best in the service. So much so that Hulu has decided to renew the series for a third season.
No, it’s not that we skipped a season. It’s just that the initial assignment was for two seasons of eight episodes, something common in animation because of the production times involved. This new season will consist of twelve episodes.
‘Solar Opposites’ revolves around a group of four aliens who land on Earth after surviving the destruction of their home planet.
Hulu has also announced the renewal of ‘Crossing Swords’, which premiered on June 12th, for a second season. The series revolves around a peasant who finds himself playing the castle’s squire.
Both renovations seem to respond to Hulu’s quest to have his own “adult swim” with slightly more adult animated series. Or, at least, more than ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Family Guy,’ and others they already have on the platform. And I think they can find there a good opportunity to build loyalty to new audiences.
In the next season of ‘Solar Opposites,’ we will have the voices of Justin Roiland, Mary Mac, Sean Giambrone, and Thomas Middleditch.
The only thing we don’t know yet is the release date. It could be that the production is still waiting for the whole issue of the global outbreak of COVID-19 to pass. In any case, we’ll have to wait a while to get confirmation of the release date, maybe by the end of this year we’ll have the answer.
