A new Hulu series is getting everyone’s attention on the internet. It’s The Great, a show that will mix drama, comedy, and satire about the story of Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning), the woman who ruled the Russian Empire for the longest time.
The first season will consist of a fictionalized, anachronistic, and idealistic story about a young romantic woman. She comes to Russia to marry the temperamental Emperor Peter (Nicholas Hoult). At first, Catherine has all her expectations set on a love and romance story like in the fairy tales, but that gradually ends when she crashes into a perverse and unfair world that she intends to fix. The turning point will come when Catherine comes to the conclusion that to fix the world she finds herself in, she must first kill her husband.
The series will be hosted by Tony McNamara, who this time will be the writer and executive producer of The Great. After the resounding success of The Favourite, he has undoubtedly proved that he can tell fascinating stories.
The Great has an exciting proposal for historical fiction that could be a success. Fanning and Hoult are joined in the cast by Adam Godley, Bayo Gbadamosi, Belinda Bromilow, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Gwilym Lee, Phoebe Fox, Sacha Dhawan, and Sebastian de Souza.
Hulu just released a new trailer for this new series, showing the royal couple plotting each other’s deaths and having controversial parties. You can watch the trailer here.
