As expected, Netflix will go on a killing spree with their scheduled releases for the month of July 2020. However, Netflix hasn’t been the only streaming platform that’s been moving through the pandemic smoothly––with the likes of Prime Video, Hulu, and even Disney+. When it comes to anime releases though, Netflix has proven itself deserving of the title “streaming giant” time and time again.
Recently, the streaming giant has released Baki and BNA: Brand New Animal. Adding to that list this July is Japan Sinks 2020. Inspired by Sakyo Komatsu’s novel of the same name, the anime will revolve around an imaginary sequence of events wherein Japan experiences a disastrous earthquake. With that, we follow the family of Ayumu, Gō, and their children as they deal with the aftermath of the catastrophe.
Japan Sinks 2020 will be featuring the protagonists’ journey in the hopes of saving their lives amidst their country, literally and figuratively, falling into pieces due to the impact of the earthquake. You might be somewhat familiar with the plot if you’ve watched Hollywood’s The Impossible––but in that film, a tsunami strikes the land.
According to the official Netflix synopsis:
After catastrophic earthquakes devastate Japan, one family’s resolve is tested on a journey of survival through the sinking archipelago.
When’s it coming, you ask? Well, it’s coming sooner than you’d expect it to come––mark the 9th of July 2020 on your calendars as this will be an epic one for the books. As you can expect, the entirety of Japan Sinks 2020 Season 1 will also be coming on that date including ten episodes with the English dubbed version also being available in the streaming giant.
Here’s the epic trailer of the anime!
So, what are your first thoughts on Japan Sinks 2020? Do you think it will be enough to cement Netflix as July’s champion for anime? Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
