Lovecraft Country’s first season has, unfortunately, come to an end after its well-awaited run of 10 fantastic episodes. Fans, on the other hand, have been non-stop on social media––asking for the second season, teasers, and anything related to the HBO horror series. Of course, if you give audiences that kind of ending, no one can wait for months for another season.
Ever since the series was in production, people were speculative of what it brings to the table. Mixing two fictional horrors in HP Lovecraft’s and Jim Crow America’s is a very bold move from HBO Max––a move that paid off quite significantly.
The story of the first season revolved around Birds of Prey’s Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors as Leti Lewis and Tic Freeman respectively. As friends-turned-lovers, both must make an effort to elude “the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.”
What’s most interesting about what’s about to happen in season two of the Lovecraft Country series is that because the first season completely told the story effectively even with some production liberties with or without Matt Ruff’s book, the second season of Lovecraft Country will be able to build its own story––may it be separate or still following the source material.
Either way, if a second season does receive the green light it deserves, there’s plenty of ideas to play around with––may it be Ruff’s, Mahoney’s, or any of the showrunners like Misha Green.
As for the cast, if Lovecraft Country does get confirmed for a second season, then audiences are likely to see the return of Jurnee Smollett as Leti Lewis, Aunjanue Ellis as Hippolyta Freeman, Michael K. Williams as Montrose Freeman, and Jada Harris as Dee Freeman. Considering the events of the first season of the HBO Max series, Jonathan Majors as Tic Freeman, Ruby Baptiste as Wunmi Mosaku, and Courtney B. Vance as Uncle George have a chance to reappear for Lovecraft Country season two.
Considering that there’s still room for more people, new stars aren’t as bad of a shout. However, given that the series is yet to be renewed, casting news may be well away from announcement.
Given that the pandemic is still ravaging TV productions including HBO Max’s, audiences will likely be hearing of the release date in the near future––given that the Lovecraft Country gets commissioned for another season, of course.
As far as everything goes, information regarding the second season of Lovecraft Country is very scarce. The fact that it has not been renewed for a second season yet leaves all the audiences in confusion as to when the series will be coming back, what will happen in the next season, or who will be returning to the cast of the series.
Either way, there are plenty of reasons why the show has attracted many great reviews, and it won’t be as surprising when HBO Max decides to renew the series.
