The star of “Good Place,” Manny Jacinto joins Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman, who were previously confirmed as lead actors for the Hulu series.
The show, which was given the green light by Hulu in May 2019, is based on the book by Liane Moriarty, the author of “Big Little Lies.” This adaptation will be written by David E. Kelley, John Henry Butterworth, and Samantha Strauss. The showrunners will be Kelley and Butterworth.
The series will take place at a health and wellness resort that promises healing and transformation. In the plot, we follow the story of nine highly stressed city dwellers who try to embark on a path to a better way of life by entering this resort. During this ten-day retreat, watching them is the resort’s director, Masha (Kidman), a woman with a mission to revitalize their tired minds and bodies. However, these nine “perfect” strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.
Jacinto will play Yao, a childish man who lives in an environment that does not conform to him. After a life-and-death encounter with Masha, Yao becomes her right-hand man. He is deeply committed to Masha’s techniques and teachings of self-improvement and is devoted to her will.
The actor is best known for playing Jason Mendoza in “The Good Place,” which ended after four seasons earlier this year. Jacinto will star alongside Tom Cruise and Miles Teller in “Top Gun: Maverick,” which is currently scheduled to open December 23.
