Happy Matrix-ary! ‘The Matrix’ trilogy has come to Netflix

Today, movies are celebrated for their genius ideas and creative concepts. However, many classics have stood strong through the years of technological and visual improvement. Case in point: The Matrix.

It has been 21 years since the cyberpunk action movie was released in US theaters, specifically on March 31, 1999. To celebrate such a feat for the franchise, not only can Netflix watchers enjoy The Matrix itself but the streaming platform also boasts of The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions––all available on the platform at midnight.

The movie trilogy stars the legendary Keanu Reeves as a parttime computer programmer and parttime cybercriminal named Neo. When he meets Trinity, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, and Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne, his reality takes a turn for the best (or the worst, you decide).

The Matrix revolves around humans living in a virtual reality dream world called “the Matrix” and this drains every human’s life force without anyone knowing. It all rests on Neo’s shoulders to stop it.

The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions both premiered in cinemas in 2003 to serve as follow-ups for the first film.

Undoubtedly, the movie trilogy has heightened the bar for computer-generated filmmaking. Because of director duo Lana and Lilly Wachowski, these types of imageries are forever revolutionized.

One of the most notable scenes in The Matrix was created with the effect of “Bullet Time,” or in filmmaking jargon––time-slice photography.

Honestly, this couldn’t have come in a better time. When people are exposed to so many new films, animations, and effects, it is nice to come back to one of the revolutionaries that started it all. In fact, a fourth Matrix movie is already under construction as Reeves and Moss are continuing their journey as Neo and Trinity alongside Lana Wachowski who is producing, directing and writing the new film.
