Melissa George is among the new cast names added to ‘Mosquito Coast,’ Apple TV+’s upcoming drama show starring George’s former collab in Alias, Justin Theroux.
The show will be based on a novel written by Theroux’s uncle, Paul Theroux, and will follow a utopian inventor called Allie, played by Theroux, as he takes his family out of their comfort zone and moves them to the Central American jungle to remake their lives. The book was previously adapted in 1986 as a feature film directed by Peter Weir, with Harrison Ford as Allie, Helen Mirren as his wife, and River Phoenix as the couple’s child.
George will reprise Mirren’s role as Margot, Allie’s wife. George is no stranger to streaming service, as she recently starred in ‘The First’ alongside Sean Penn. She is also a Golden Globe nominee for her role in ‘In Treatment,’ and will soon have a recurring role in Damien Chazelle’s ‘The Eddy,’ in Netflix, and in ‘De Son Vivant,’ a film tabbed to release in 2020.
George’s was not the only new cast member named. She and Theroux will be joined by Logan Polish (The Astronaut Farmer) who’ll play Dina, Margot and Allie’s eldest, teenage daughter; and Gabriel Bateman (Annabelle, Child’s Play) as Charlie, their youngest child.
Neil Cross (Luther) co-wrote the first episode with Tom Bissell and will be the showrunner. Rupert Wyatt, the man behind ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ will direct a handful of Season 1 episodes, including the first, and also serves as exec producer with Cross.
