Here’s the tea, people. Netflix’s Metal Lords is an upcoming teen music drama film created, produced, and written by the most legendary duo of the 21st century, the creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming film and why it’s as exciting as it sounds!
As you may know, the duo has been on fire––coming off from their Game of Thrones deal with HBO, they signed almost immediately with Netflix through an expansive deal to produce new titles for the streamer. They’ve given us a sneak peek into what’s about to come––announcing a good number of projects including Metal Lords.
Alongside Benioff and Weiss are Bighead Littlehead for production, The Hurt Locker‘s Greg Shapiro as a producer, and Cannes Film Festival’s Cinefondation Award winner Petter Sollett as the director. Now, Sollett has been very busy in terms of his career. He’s been working on Hulu’s The Path and HBO’s Vinyl and will also be directing the upcoming live-action adaptation of one of the most generational games to grace the universe in Minecraft.
The plot of the upcoming film is centered around two boys in high school alongside a girl who collectively makes an effort to start a heavy metal band so they can eventually compete in Battle of the Bands. Here’s a more thorough synopsis!
“Two kids want to start a heavy metal band in a high school where exactly two kids care about heavy metal. They try to find a bass player, and fail—but they do find a girl who is very good at cello. If the three of them can’t settle their differences and work together, they’re never going to win the Battle of the Bands.”
Initially, the film was supposed to be under production as early as July, but because of the pandemic––it was a rigorous task to continue. However, the good news is they are to begin filming in October 2020 in Portland, so we have that going.
