Netflix has decided to cancel ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ after two seasons. The host Jonah Ray revealed the sad news to fans on Twitter
“So, Netflix decided to not do another season of MST3K. We are off to Get Down in Lilyhammer while the OA helps us take it One Day At A Time. We will be in group therapy with Tuca & Bertie, Jessica Jones, & Lady Dynamite. The sessions will be run by Gypsy (w/ Naomi Watts),” he tweeted on his account. None of the shows he mentions past the three-season milestone, which seems the limit Netflix marks on its shows that don’t quickly prove to be successful.
After that, he tweeted saying he felt proud of working in the show and thanked the mind behind the show, Joel Hodgson and the ‘MSTies,’ the show fans.
“So, Thank you Joel & especially all the MSTies who embraced me as a mug in a (yellow) jumpsuit. I know it wasn’t easy accepting a new guy, so I appreciate the warmth.”
‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ first aired from 1988-1999 on Comedy Central and Syfy. Netflix announced the reboot a couple of years ago after a successful $5.7 million campaign on Kickstarter and ran it for two ten-episode seasons.
However, that Netflix won’t run a third season doesn’t necessarily mean it’s over for MST3. In another tweet, Ray added that “We don’t know what the future holds for the show,” “it always seemed to figure out how to survive. From Comedy Central to Syfy. Then kept alive by RIFFTRAX & Cinematic Titan. Whatever happens, I want everybody to know that getting a chance to be on this show was a dream come true”. Here’s hoping that’s the case.
