With no doubt in everyone’s mind, the COVID-19 outbreak has surely proved its worth as a deadly virus. The worldwide pandemic has not only hit entertainment industries such as Netflix but has also remained lethal in the sports scene. Multiple sports have been stopped and companies such as the NBA and the NFL have been thinking of ways to alleviate the matter. For the fans, as one would say.
Sadly, the competitive cheerleading scene is not an exception. One of my personal biases in Netflix’s plethora of selections Cheer let us meet the Navarro College Bulldogs cheerleading squad––one of the nation’s pride in the sport. They compose of international stars from different positions such as flyers, stunters, and tumblers. Now, you have to feel for the team as the cheering event they have been preparing for all-year-round was canceled. It was supposed to be in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The annual championship, which boasts what teams have prepared for physically and mentally for the whole year, has been canceled because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as it was announced in Varsity Sport’s website––the hosts of the competition.
Navarro cheerleaders took it to Instagram about how they felt about the cancelation of the competition this year. For starters, you can just see how much love and passion they put into the sport. The optimism, the hope––everything’s there.
One of my favorite cheerleaders in the series, La’Darius Marshall, wrote on his post: “This isn’t goodbye Navarro 2020 it’s see you later. Daytona you will be missed and greatly appreciated.”

Shannon Woolsey wrote: “as im typing this with uncontrollable tears running down my face, i can’t help but think about how bad i just want one more performance with navarro cheer. the amount of love i have for this program is indescribable. i never could have imagined the season ending like this.”
Heads up, Navarro College Bulldogs! We’ll be rooting for you all the way still!
