Netflix Sci-Fi Series, ‘Altered Carbon’, has been cancelled after two seasons

As Netflix discontinues two of their audience-loves shows inThe SocietyandI Am Not Okay With This,Altered Carbonjoins them in the chopping block.

The cyberpunk drama starred Anthony Mackie and boasted of eight episodes of the second season that was released on the 27th of February. Alongside that, the show also has an anime movie that released on the 19th of March.

The reason for its cancellation does not stem from COVID-related reasons unlike those of the previous shows mentioned. However, as Deadline reported, it is caused by the streamer’s standard viewership vs. cost renewal review process.

Created by Laeta Kalogridis,Altered Carbonwas based on Richard K. Morgan’s, an English author, novel of the same name. There have been comments that in that small two-season run for the streaming platform, it gives out an aura similar to Lana and Lilly Wachowskis’ Sense8.

Undoubtedly, the first season ofAltered Carbonproved to be one of the best openings to a sci-fi series––and the second season rode the wave. Season 2 of the series began 30 years after what was the conclusion of the first season. We saw Takeshi Kovacs, played by Anthony Mackie, as the lone survivor of the group of elite interstellar warriors and goes off to continue on his quest in the hopes to find Quellcrist Falconer, played by Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Kudos, still, to Skydance Television––where the series came from. The company has also boasted ofGrace and Frankieplus a Jane Lynch/Cyndi Lauper comedy to their names and it, quite recently, has been blowing up for the streamer. They are also responsible forThe Old Guard, one of Netflix’s recent hits.
