On Monday, Netflix announced the lead cast of its upcoming eight-episode thriller show, ‘Clickbait.‘ Zoe Kazan, Adrian Grenier, Betty Gabriel, and Phoenix Raei will play the main roles in the series.
The show will examine how or most unconscious and dangerous impulses can be intensified by social media and the fractures between our real-life personality and online alter-egos.
The production has already begun, filming in Melbourne, Australia.
Kazan will play Pia Brewer. She is a young woman searching for answers on her brother’s disappearance, which has become a media frenzy. She is known for her starring role in ‘The Big Sick,’ and ‘Ruby Sparks,’ which she also wrote. She’s about to star in the HBO adaptation of ‘The Plot Against America.’
Gabriel is Sophie Brewer, a woman having a hard time keeping her family together as they are in the spotlight of the biggest media story of the moment. She is known for her parts in ‘Get Out,’ and ‘The Purge: Election Year.’ She’ll soon appear in the Apple show ‘Defending Jacob.’
Grenier will portray Nick Brewer, a man who has an apparently perfect life with a beautiful wife and two sons, but everything goes south when he is a suspect of a strange crime. He’s known for his role in HBO’s classic, ‘Entourage,’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’
Raei will play Roshan Aire, a detective that follows the case and founds himself trapped by the media frenzy revolving the case. He’s previously starred in ‘ The Heights.’
Tony Ayres and Christian White co-created the show. Ayres will be the showrunner and will co-exec produce alongside White, who wrote the show. Brian Anderson will direct the first handful of episodes, while Emma Freeman will direct the second block. David Heyman, Tom Winchester, Tom Hoffie and Joanna Werner will serve as producers.
