Netflix is getting bigger and bigger by the minute. We don’t call Netflix the streaming giant for no reason, don’t we now? Netflix started the year right in Paris, as Netflix CEO Reed Hastings cut the ribbon of the company’s new French headquarters and is reportedly releasing a whole list of original French TV show, series, and films.
Jean-Pierre Jeunet is first on the list. Jeunet was also the director for Amelie, but Big Bug will be his big project (see what I did there?) for the streaming platform. Big Bug is Jeunet’s in-the-workshops “science fiction comedy with robots” and with that new a genre, we don’t know what to expect. Unknowing of the upcoming show’s potential, many of France’s studios have turned down the project. Starring will be Elsa Zylberstein, Isabelle Nanty and Manu Payet. Next on that list is Fanny Herrero. Herrero’s Call My Agent! is a six-part series on a group of young comedians paving their way to get to the Paris stand-up scene. Leclerc’s Sentinelle, starring Olga Kurylenko, will also be there! As well as the second season of Mortel, a YA sci-fi series.
That’s an exciting group of shows, and we’re not even a quarter way up. Included in that 20-list is The Eddy by Jack Thorne, Arséne Lupin by George Kay and La Révolution by Aurélien Molas.
Damien Couvreur is the director of series of Netflix in France, and he has this to say about the upcoming projects:
“We are incredibly proud of the productions we’re currently filming, the ones we are developing and the ones we’ve unveiled today.”
“The establishment of a new French creative hub brings new opportunities for us to work with the best and most exciting creative talent in France and to bring diverse genres and content to everyone who loves French storytelling.”
Netflix is going big this 2020, and maybe they’re coming to your place as well. But for now, let’s just enjoy what we have and let’s get this year started with a bang!
