Netflix and Kelis’ ‘Cooked with Cannabis’ is the show we all needed to see

In case you live under a rock, singer and chef Kelis is hosting Netflix’s cannabis cooking show that dropped on the 20th of April or what people refer to as 4/20.

Cooked with Cannabis is a cooking competition that will serve as a challenge for three professional chefs to incorporate cannabis into a three-course dinner. The chefs will be asked to create meals of different themes––may it be world cuisine or futurist food, etc. The challenge is, well, to put cannabis in it. With the like of El-P, Ricki Lake, Too Short, and comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub, the six-episode series will surely be a fun watch. $10,000 is up for grabs to the “high”ly talented chef that wins the competition.

The singer will host the series alongside Leather Storrs, Portland’s very one popular chef. Each meal, of course, will then be judged by Kelis, Leather and a guest judge.

Kelis issued the following statement about the show, “As a chef, I was intrigued by the food and as an everyday person. I was interested in how powerful this topic is in today’s society. In this country, many things have been used systematically to oppress groups of people, but this is so culturally important for us to learn and grow together.”

“Many of the chefs used the plant in non-psychoactive ways: as a flavouring, as a puree in fresh tortillas, or blended into a flour,” Leather told Food & Wine. “This is a show for food people, for stoners and for folks that are curious about both.”

“I’m really excited to announce my new show, Cooked with Cannabis on @Netflix!! As a chef, I was intrigued by the food + as an everyday person, I was interested in how powerful this topic is in today’s society. I hope you all will tune in, it’ll be a good time! We launch on 4/20,” Kelis says in her tweet.
