Big updates and big moves from Netflix’s Selena: The Series! In December of 2018, the streaming giant has given the go signal for the show. Only recently did they discover the perfect person to play the iconic Mexican-American singer––and it’s The Walking Dead actress in Christian Serratos.
According to That Hashtag Show, another superstar is going to be featured in the biographical drama produced by the Quintanilla family. They released a casting call for, and I quote, an 11-year-old Black girl who has dreams of becoming a quee––sorry, a singer. What’s the role, you ask? Well, it’s Beyoncé as a kid.
Alongside that casting call is another one for a 40-year-old Black American woman who will be playing the girl’s mom named Tina Knowles. In the story, she’s responsible for taking her daughters to the mall to see Selena. Another one includes fitting a profile of a 31-year-old Whitney Houston. Not many people really know how they met in the first place, but it was reported that they were very big fans of each other’s work––a mutual appreciation towards each others’ work.
Beyoncé, on the other hand, has a very old MTV clip during her budding days wherein she talked about watching the Latina singer at a Galleria Mall in Houston.
“I met Selena at the Galleria Mall in Houston. But I didn’t say much to Selena because I wasn’t famous back then,” Beyoncé said. “I just saw her, greeted her and continued on my way.”
“I think she was a legend and I admire her,” Beyoncé said.
At that point in time, you just knew she grew up listening to Selena’s songs on the radio. However, she was really too young to understand the lyrics, but she knew that Selena’s a worldwide talent and legend. Beyoncé took it as Selena’s music helping her to rise up through the ranks when it was her turn to swoon the world.
