Zimbabwe’s award-winning comedy movie ‘Cook Off’ is coming to Netflix

Cook Off, a 2017 award-winning comedy movie from Zimbabwe, will soon be coming to your doorsteps aka Netflix. With a streaming platform that has almost 200 million subscribers, there’s no better platform this film would belong to.

The comedy film was written and directed by Tomas Brickhill alongside Joe Njagu for production. It features Tendaishe Chitima, Jessesi Mungoshi, Eddie Sandifolo, Chirikure Chirikure, and popular rapper ‘Tehn Diamond’ or Tendai Nguni.

Cook Off revolves around the story of a single mother who join a reality cooking show. The bad thing is, she’s going up against the best of the best––the top chefs of the country––when she has no professional culinary experience at all. In a movie sense, it kind of feels like an underdog story but delivered in a different way under a different genre. It’s a MUST on your watch list!

But hey, not only are we the ones excited for this release, but also producer Njagu who said that he is thrilled and will be announcing the date of the screening soon!

Njagu commented, “We’ll be announcing the release date very soon. We can’t wait to share this feel-good movie with the world. At first, we were worried about releasing it during the current pandemic but then decided that people might appreciate the distraction and entertainment. We’ve been lucky to be able to screen the film in a number of countries around the world, including at festivals in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Botswana, and Zambia. We’ve also screened at festivals in the US, the UK, France, Belgium, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands, which is where we had our international premiere.”

Brickhill also commented, “We are really proud of this achievement. This shows the talent and hard work every member of the cast and crew brought to this film.”
