This series is just feeling itself at this point. Star after star, Maid has been absolutely crushing its cast lineup. Only recently, Nick Robinson has been set to portray the male lead opposite to that of Margaret Qualley’s for the series. The Netflix dramedy series is spearheaded by writer Molly Smith Metzler, John Wells Productions, Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment, and, of course, Warner Bros. Television. Even those behind the camera are bigtime.
As you’ve read, Metzler has written the show with the inspiration of Stephanie Land’s bestselling memoir titled Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. The story revolves around the life of Alex, played by Margaret Qualley, a single mother who’s making ends meet by housekeeping. With the story all in her point of view, the series will be an emotional trainwreck (in a good way, of course) and inspiring both at the same time.
This marks the reunion of Qualley and Robinson after first starring together in Native Son, a Rashid Johnson HBO project that premiered at Sundance last year.
Behind the scenes, the team flaunts icons of the entertainment business as well. With Metzler serving as the showrunner of the show, she will also be serving as an executive producer alongside Wells and Erin Jontow under John Wells Productions, and Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Brett Hedblom for LuckyChap Entertainment.
As for Robinson, he’s best known for his lead roles in Love, Simon, Jurrasic World, Everything, Everything, and Kings of Summer. Adding to his repertoire is his recently concluded role on Broadway as Jem Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird––a run, unfortunately, ended by the pandemic and its severe lockdown precautions.
His next projects involve him in FX’s upcoming series in A Teacher, another project for this year alongside Silk Road and Shadow in the Cloud. Big year for the young man!
