Hooray for Netflix animated films––and more hooray for it having Asian voice actors! Quite the combination but it may just be what we needed for a different dose of energy––much like that of 2019’s Abominable.
So, here it is! Netflix has just recently revealed their new animated feature, Over the Moon, will be arriving on the platform this Fall 2020! The new movie will be featuring the likes of Sandra Oh, Cathy Ang, and John Cho. Stick around as we’ll be keeping you up-to-date on the information you have to know about the new film, including its plot, trailer, and the most-awaited release date.
First of all, it boasts a pretty wicked genre as Over the Moon is an animated musical from both Netflix and Pearl Studio. To add to that, the feature is helmed by none other than the animation veteran in Glen Keane alongside the late writer Audry Wells and Jennifer Yee McDevitt. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Wells passed away in October of 2018––resulting in McDevitt completing the vision and the unfinished mission brought by Wells’ story.
As you may know, this isn’t Keane’s first tango with animation. Dating back to the 70s, this man was on fire in the animation industry––working with the likes of Disney and titles that we’ve all seen with the likes of The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Tangled. His force in the industry is unmatched, and his on-going legacy continues with Over the Moon.
The feature film is about teenager Fei Fei who is so convinced of the legendary moon goddess existing––so much so that she builds her own rocketship to meet her. Alongside her pet Rabbit and Chin, they find what may just be the most scenic place in search of the coveted goddess.
As for the release date, it was confirmed that the feature film will be coming on Netflix this Fall. A specific date is yet to be released, but it’s looking good as anything after September is more time to polish what is an already great product from only the best team. However, we can also expect an exact release date in the coming months––so stay tuned!
