Crime dramas has been taking television by storm, so it is no surprise that Ozark, a series created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, is doing spectacular on Netflix right now. The show stars Jason Bateman who portrays a financial planner, Marty Byrde, who relocated his family to Osage Beach, Missouri, after a money laundering scheme goes wrong. Byrde must make amends to the Mexican drug cartel by setting up a bigger laundering operation in the Ozarks.
In October, Ozark was renewed for a third season that includes ten episodes. Not much details have been released for the new season of Ozark, we just know it will be released some time in 2019.
With the limited details surrounding season 3 of Ozark, fans are left to speculate what will happen with Marty Byrde and his family. We know that season two ended with the family getting further entangled in criminal enterprises. Marty opened a giant casino boat, which he will use to launder millions of dollars for the Mexican drug cartel. We are only assuming this will be a big part of season three.
Besides the giant casino boat, the show left a ton of loose ends that can be tied up in season three. We know that Cade Langmore was shot by a mysterious gunman, and there were plenty of people who wanted him dead that could have killed him. Cade also killed officer Roy Petty, which means the Feds will have a great reason to get to the bottom of what is happening in the Ozarks.
We also have the small detail of Marty’s affair with Rachel and the fact that his wife Wendy has also decided to be involved in money laundering with Marty and created direct communications with the cartel via her lawyer. During a panel in Hollywood Chris Mundy did give out one hint to season three only saying “Wendy”. This can possibly indicate that Wendy will have a much larger role to play in season three then she did in the past two seasons.
Mundy also offered a short tease for season three saying:
“Ozark season 3 to us is about what keeps you safe and whether or not hiding keeps you safe or attacking keeps you safe. In other seasons, between Season 1 and Season 2, certainly we sort of left with a whole lot of plot we needed to answer, and we intentionally didn’t leave ourselves with a whole lot of plot to answer for in Season 3. So, it’s more emotional within; we write everything through the marriage. So, for us, it’s all about that marriage.”
Ozark is said to go into production in a few weeks, meaning we are most likely going to see season 3 premiere in the Fall. Season 1 premiered in July 2017 and season 2 premiered in August 2018, so the production timeline is leaning towards a fall release date.
Last year Ozark received five Emmy nominations, including outstanding directing and lead actor in a drama for Jason Bateman. Ozark is expected to be a major Emmy contestant in 2019 especially since Bateman won the Screen Actors Guild Award for his part in the show and the series earned its first Best Ensemble nomination as well.
Season 1 and 2 of Ozark are streaming right now on Netflix.
