‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’ cancelled after a fruitful 6 seasons with Netflix

One of the saddest departures from Netflix history will be that of the Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj. After quite the run with the streaming giant, the show now faces the chopping black––making Volume 6 its final season.

Quite the surprising axe for the streamer as Patriot Act serves to be one of its better talk shows. However, that’s not our decision to make. We’re just saying that the show had a reason for lasting six full seasons on the platform.

Because of the pandemic, the sixth volume didn’t go as planned. Originally, the show was due to be filmed in New York so that it could finally premiere during the months of March and April. However, the COVID-19 disruptions led the show to follow the “work from home” format for its sixth season released in May 2020.

Minhaj, the host of the show, took it Twitter to express the news of the cancellation on the 18th of August, 2020––thanking Netflix for what was a fruitful run.

Nothing to be sad about here, however, as Patriot Act boasts of a whopping 40 episodes in its six-season life. Hopes for whether the series could be renewed by a new platform remains to be uncalled for. A couple of negotiations here and there doesn’t seem to be the appropriate action as of now. However, maybe content on YouTube would fair well for the series. Proven by statistics itself, the most popular YouTube video the channel has released so far racked up over five million views––and that’s about the Indian Election.

Let’s not get our hopes up, though, as the host himself has been pretty busy with other projects. Don’t forget that Minhaj still exists in the streaming platform. He flaunts a 2017 stand-up special called Homecoming King and he’s appeared in a handful of Netflix shows including The Final Table, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and Arrested Development even though it was such a small role.
