Paul Feig to spearhead Netflix’s adaptation of Soman Chainani’s ‘The School For Good And Evil’

The legendary Paul Feig has signed with Netflix to direct The School For Good And Evil––the platform’s adaptation of Soman Chainani’s bestselling novel of the same name.

David Magee and Laura Solon will be adapting the screenplay which will be revolving around best friends Agatha and Sophie who find out where fairytale characters go to school: enter, the School for Good and Evil––where ordinary boys and girls are trained to become heroes and villains.

If you’ve read the book, you’d know that Sophie has everything to do with being a princess, and with this, she just knows she’s going to the School for good and join the likes of Snow White. On the other hand, you have Agatha with her not-necessarily-dark aesthetic but you can say that. It’s the cat I’m scared of––making her a pretty good fit for the villains. However, things don’t go as planned and they find themselves on opposite sides of the table––Sophie in the School for Evil and Agatha in the School for Good. This puts their friendship into a whole new level of drama and perspective, and you’d want to stick around watching.

Producing the show will be Joe Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Jane Startz and Feigco’s Feig and Laura Fischer. Alongside Zack Roth, Patricia Riggen, and Chainani as executive producers.

“To have one of your favorite directors adapt your book into a film for Netflix is an honor and a dream,” said Chainani. “Paul Feig is a brilliant filmmaker and a master of tone — a perfect fit for the twists and turns of The School For Good & Evil. I have no doubt that he will make a true fairy tale classic.”

Added Feig, “I’m truly excited to bring this amazing, touching, funny, and empowering world that Soman created in his wonderful books to life. I feel like a frog that just turned into a prince.”
