If you’re Ricky Gervais, you’d be wondering where you’re going next––and you’d be silly if you’re thinking about your next Golden Globes hosting. Fortunately for Gervais, the second season of his Netflix series, After Life, will be returning to the streaming platform at an early date of the 24 of April 2020!
The comedy-drama series, which is set in the town of Tambury, follows Tony (Ricky Gervais) who’s a writer for their local newspaper. Due to an unfortunate sequence of events, Tony’s wife dies of cancer. Where will his life head to now?
In the second installment, Tony now tries to become both a better friend and a better person to the people around him. This is all while coping with his own grief because of his late wife. Every single one in the series is clouded by their own thoughts and problems. Everything intensifies when the local newspaper is threatened to be shut down.
From Derek Productions, the Netflix original series, After Life, is a six-part series created, written, and directed by Gervais himself. Alongside Gervais are Charlie Henson as a produces and both Gervais and Duncan hayes are the series’ executive producers.
Returning cast includes Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey, Doctor Who), David Bradley (The Harry Potter series, Game of Thrones), Ashley Jensen (Extras), Tom Basden (Plebs, David Brent: Life On The Road), Tony Way (Edge of Tomorrow), David Earl (Cemetery Junction, Derek), Joe Wilkinson (Him and Her), Kerry Godliman (Derek), Mandeep Dhillon, Jo Hartley, Roisin Conaty and Diane Morgan (David Brent: Life On The Road), Tracy-Ann Oberman (Eastenders). ”I was blown away by the reaction to season one,” said Gervais. “I’ve never experienced anything quite like it! It’s been truly heartwarming to see how the show has resonated with so many viewers on an emotional level. I can’t wait for everyone to see season 2 where hope is everything”
