On the 12th of November, 2020, Sony launched Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales alongside their most anticipated releases of 2020, the PlayStation 5 video game console. Since the release of the video game, your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man has caught gamers in webs once again.
2018’s spinoff of Marvel’s “Spider-Man” for the PlayStation 4 was also praised highly. The game featured Miles as the lead and no Spider-Man game would be complete without swinging through New York and beating down criminals with tons of style points.
In this particular “Spiderverse”, however, Peter Parker is the Spider-Man and has taken Miles under his wings (or webs, whatever) after he was also bitten by a spider that gives him superhuman powers. When Peter needs to travel overseas, Miles is put on the pedestal.
How is it different?
This time, the game will be zooming in on Miles’ adventure against energy company Roxxon and a group called The Underground. As you would expect, all missions will be related to the plot––however, side missions will also be available through an app connected to Ganke that will let you help assist citizens and fight off local crime.
Much like its predecessor, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales gives a wonderful view of New York City. For an action-packed, criminal-fighting game, swinging through the city is quite the––incoming Homecoming reference––Peter Tingle.
As you start completing mission after mission, experience for Miles’ skills become available––making him more of an unbeatable superhero than a friendly neighbour. Alongside that, you’re able to unlock new Spider-Man suits and various modifications––one that includes the suit of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’s Miles Morales.
Since it takes on the privilege of being played on the PS5, the DualSense feature on the controller alongside its haptic technology gives an extraordinarily realistic feel to the game. From every web swing of Miles and electrical shock, it’s like you’re there with him.
Following the young and inexperienced Miles Morales, gamers’ inner childhood dreams of flying across buildings are undoubtedly granted. With a literally whole new level of gamer experience through the PS5, most enthusiasts of the game and the franchise have preordered the console just to experience what it offers––and Spider-Man: Miles Morales did not disappoint and gave the console a gorgeous introduction.
The game itself is a worthwhile expansion of the Spiderverse. Considering a handful of gamers loved, and are still loving, Miles Morales’ depiction in the game, there’s a thrill in Sony will be taking the next installment of the game. With a lot to uncover with Peter Parker and Morales’ relationship, the brave-hearted protagonist is well beyond his years in the franchise. If you’re in the market for a good story and one of the better introductions to the PlayStation 5, this is the game for you.
