Spinning Out has spun out of Netflix, gets cancelled after season 1

It’s a hard time to be a Netflix series if you’re not named Stranger ThingsThe Good Place, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Netflix has just been on a roll recently in cancelling series after series. Not even in a span of three whole days, the streaming platform has already cancelled musical drama Soundtrack and, today’s topic, figure skating drama Spinning Out. Much like SoundtrackSpinning Out is also a one-season ender.

At first, Spinning Out was in a very good foundation––releasing on the new year, January 1 as well as starring Kaya Scodelario, you’d think nothing can go wrong especially with that new a genre. There were 10 episodes in the series and it follows Kat Baker, played by Scodelario, who is a one-of-a-kind talent and a generational figure skater. However, Kat Baker got involved in a disastrous fall that took her career with her in the competition track. Presented with a new life, Baker was offered an opportunity she just couldn’t pass on––to get back on ice. There is a twist, though! Her career lies in the balance of pair skating with Justin, played by Evan Roderick, nonetheless.

Quite the cast, this series had. With the likes of January Jones, Willow Shields, Amanda Zhou, Will Kemp, Svetlana Efremova, Mitchell Edwards, Sarah Wright Olsen, David James Elliott, Johnny Weir, Kaitlyn Leeb, and Jonathan Van Ness. Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Samantha Stratton, and Lara Olsen served as executive producers. Stratton and Olsen served as co-showrunners.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, critics had it at an above-average score of 63% approval rating.

“[As] the season plods towards its uneven finale, ‘Spinning Out’ instead does exactly what its title promises instead of sticking the landing. Each episode runs almost a full hour long, but the stories rarely fill that space as they should,” Caroline Framke wrote for Variety.

  1. I loved this show! It was a realistic approach to someone who is and loves someone who is suffering with bipolar. I reay feel this show deserves another season, even if that is the last. This show was captivating!
