Indian Meadows Production, a company ran by Sterling K. Brown has struck a deal with Hulu that commits the streaming platform to produce a pilot or, otherwise pay a penalty, for a ‘Washington Black’ show, based on Esi Edugyan’s novel.

‘Washington Black’ follows the story of George Washington Black, an 11-year-old slave on a Barbados who must flee the plantation with the master’s eccentric brother, Christopher Wilde, after a shocking occurrence in the plantation threatens their lives. The couple goes on an around-the-glob adventure using a funny flying machine. The journey leads them to exotic places throughout America, the Sahara, the cold Arctic, and old Europe while escaping a determined bounty hunter.

Selwyn Seyfu Hinds is adapting the novel to a series format and serving as an executive producer alongside Edugyan, Anthony Hemingway, who’ll also serve as the director. They are joined by Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, DJ Goldberg, and Lindsay Williams  Brown is the producer.

Brown created Indian Meadows in 2018 under a deal with 20th Century Fox to promote diversity developing film, cable, and streaming projects. This would be the first show to come from Indian Meadows.

The actor has a tight agenda soon. He’ll return to the small screen for the 4th installment of ‘This Is Us’ on September 24. He’ll also join the cast of ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 3, and will soon star in ‘Waves’, that just premiered at the TIFF, and ‘Frozen 2’, to be released on November 22.
