Taylor Swift: Miss Americana – Netflix release date and what to expect

Fans of the songstress will be excited to hear that Netflix has created a documentary Taylor Swift: Miss Americana, that will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020 before being released on Netflix.

The documentary is directed by Lana Wilson, of The Departure acclaim, and promises to give us a vulnerable look at the star. It will also deal with the issue of what it is like to live under the constant scrutiny of the media.

According to the press release, the documentary is:

… a raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our time during a transformation period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.

This may refer to Swift’s work with Time’s Up, an initiative to protect women from harassment that she collaborated in with 300 other women in Hollywood, or her recent advocacy of LGTBQ rights.

The documentary may also look at the recent dispute between Swift and her old label over the rights of her older material.

Whatever the documentary covers, it is sure to offer new insight into the singer who, at the age of 14, became the youngest artist to be signed by Sony. Her 2006 debut album was the longest charting album of 2000. Today she has sold more than 50 million records and is the only woman in history with sex consecutive number one album debuts. She certainly has a story to tell.

If you can’t wait until January, check out Taylor Swift: Reputation, her stadium tour show that is already available on Netflix.
